Sith-Imperial War

The resurgent Empire used the situation after the failure of the Ossus Project to draw in the Alliance’s member worlds. Invoking the Treaty of Anaxes, the Empire declared war on the Galactic Alliance. The deep divisions of the Yuuzhan-Vong war left many Alliance worlds declaring neutrality in the conflict while some actually joined with the Empire. Despite these setbacks, the Alliance was able to hold its own against the Empire and were the winning side after the first year of conflict.

In the second year of the war, Darth Krayt and the Sith Order allied themselves with the Empire, reversing the Empire’s losses and putting the Alliance on the defensive. The third year of the Sith–Imperial War resulted in the military defeat of the Alliance at the Battle of Caamas, and the Imperial occupation of Coruscant. The Empire was thus reestablished as the primary galactic government, and immediately shifted its seat of government to the galactic capital world.
Some of the Alliance’s remaining planets surrendered to the Empire and submitted to Imperial overlordship under the existing Alliance leadership. Alliance bureaucracy was integrated into the new government in its entirety, although the Moffs planned a full transition to an Imperial system of government.
